Polwaththa Eco Lodges

What is the Polwaththa Project

Our vision with Polwaththa is to create a tropical island holiday experience in the relaxed, natural setting of a Kandyan forest garden. While giving you the personal attention you deserve, served in a traditional style.

Our Philosophy

Polwaththa Eco-Lodges is as close as you can get to sustainable tourism. Solar power replaces electricity, rain water where possible is harvested and put to good use and the three R's - Reduce, Recycle, Re-use are widely practiced. The land and the produce grown on the land was certified organic by Skal-holland (the inspection body for organic produce in the Netherlands). Our guests enjoy nature, culture, adventure, privacy, peace and tranquility - as much or little of these as you prefer. And your stay with us provides employment opportunities to the local villagers, supports local schools and hospitals, promotes local arts and crafts, protects the environment and encourages local villager's participation.

Location of Polwaththa

The location for the Polwaththa eco-tourism project was chosen for its ideal climate, breathtaking views and the close proximity to tourist destinations. Plus it is right in the jungle, so it gives you a taste of living in the wild. It is only 18km away from Kandy, Sri Lanka's historic hill capital and 125km from the main airport. The national parks which are famous for wild elephants, leopards, crocodiles and a host of other animals and birds are within 100km of Polwaththa. And some of the best beaches in the world are less than 180km away.

''Thank you for making our stay so memorable. The walk through the forest and to the village was lovely and showed some of the real Sri Lanka. The staff have been very helpful and happy to make our trip a good one. Thanks again.''

-Steve, UK
''Fantastic time! We have had such a great 3 days here. The trekking through the tea fields and the tea factory was the highlight. Compliments to the cook, every meal was a treat. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome.''
